I know it has been awhile since I have posted! Since, being promoted to an assistant manager and the holiday season, I have not had much time to plan and get ahead on the wedding. Working retail during the holiday season is crazy, but since that is all over I have more time to focus on my personal life a little bit! I wanted to make an update about the amazing jolly holidays that we had and our new year!
This holiday season was definitely a Higgins Glynn extravaganza. We celebrated thanksgiving over at Matthew's parent's house. My parents, brother, and niece also joined us. Most of the day we played games. Luckily both the Higgins and Glynn family are big game people and love competitiveness of winning!! We laughed that both our families keep track of who wins, because there is always discussion over who won what games months later. Both families made a turkey, making them each traditionallly our own way. In my family we usually do a drunken turkey (classic Higgins style). It was great to come together as a family and give thanks for the many blessings in our life. I was truly so thankful to have both families able to be together, so I can have all my favorite people in the same place!
Christmas was just as great!! We hosted christmas at our house this year! This was the first year for me, in a long time, that we did not have christmas at my families' cabin. We decorated the house all over with help from my mother. She bought us our first real tree. I had this small 3 foot treet from colllege, so she bought us a christmas tree. We decorated it with our wedding colors!!!! We still put up the baby tree, just in another corner. Since, we hosted we accumulated many presents under the tree and the days leading up to christmas, looking at the piles of unopened presents made me even more excited for the big day! Traditionally Christmas morning, my family opens presents from oldest to youngest, that way we can watch everyone open their gifts (I always go last cause I am the baby). I got many amazing gifts! One of my favorites was the juicer Matt got me! I have been talking about getting one for so long, so I was so excited when opening the gift! I also loved the three ring stands my mom got me. I know that sounds like a lot, three, but I tend to leave my engagement ring by the sink or shower and forget to put it back on. So, now I have a ring stand in all places that I usually take it off at!
For New Years we went up to the mountain and spent New Year's Eve with other couples. We played games and talked about our favorite moments of 2013 and our personal and professional goals of 2014. It was so amazing seeing the accomplishments and aspirations of our friends. It is crazy to think that we are all so young, but have achieved so much so far! As a tradition every New Year, Matt and I lay in bed and go back and forth and list our resolutions. That way we can try to hold each other accountable for our plans and goals. We had a great time and even greater to spend it together with some great friends of ours.
SOOO.... YES! If you cannot tell from the christmas tree picture, our wedding colors are colbalt blue with shades of blue and shades of purple mixed it. It was purely concidence these just so happen to be colors of our fraternity and sorority, but obvisously a great touch to our roots. The next major thing on our list of to dos is having an engagment PARTYYY!!! More to be announced very soon, and of course will be taking lots of photos along the way of all the DIY and yummy food!
We hope you all had the happiest of holidays!!!
xoxo,
Soon to be Mrs Glynn
